Fall is a traditional time for celebrating harvests in growing regions worldwide and the vintners of the Santa Ynez Valley are no different, as each fall they welcome visitors to sample the fruits of their labor with the release of the year’s vintage wines.
Located just two hours from Los Angeles and a scenic 45 minute drive from Santa Barbara, the Santa Ynez Valley is home to over 140 wineries scattered amongst the picturesque villages and rolling hills that make this one of the loveliest getaway spots in all of California.
The Winter Pass Event
To jumpstart the fall and winter season and provide wine lovers an opportunity to sample a wide selection of the area’s harvest, the Santa Barbara County Vintner’s Association sponsors the Santa Ynez Valley Winter Pass Event to encourage visitors to stop by member wineries to partake of local varietals and a few delicious snacks too.
Visitors purchase a sampling pass which enables them to organize a self-guided tour of local wineries. The pass allows visitors to enjoy specially selected premium wines skillfully paired with tasty treats which demonstrate the region’s wide range of expertly produced crops.
The passes are $35 per person and allow visitors the opportunity to become familiar with the wide selection of both small boutique and more established wineries throughout the area. The passport also comes with a special tasting glass sporting the event’s logo.
The Winter Pass season begins on November 1, 2012 and runs through January 31, 2013. This extended event enables wine and food lovers multiple weekends through the winter and holiday season where they can spend leisurely days exploring at their own pace, following their own scenic route through the beautiful hills of the Santa Ynez Valley.
Visit the Winter Pass Event page for more information about where to pick up your tasting glass and other important information. The Winter Pass is sold on The Santa Ynez Wine Country website and can be picked up in person.
Visiting the wine region is made even easier with the nearby Santa Ynez Valley Marriott, conveniently located near the picturesque village of Solvang and its numerous tasting rooms.
